Clichés generally popularize themselves in media advertising and pervade themselves into our everyday lives. If it’s something you hear a lot, it’s a cliché. And if just about anything can be plugged into it, it becomes generally meaningless and potentially annoying. As soon as something is recognizable as a cliché, it should be banished from our lexicon, and especially from communications we create.

The current pet advertising cliché is:

“It’s [all] about ____________.”
(frequently preceeded by what it’s not about)

The current advertising cliché will be changed regularly. Lest we forget their popularity, let’s put all noncurrent clichés in an archive: our Advertising Cliché Hall of Shame (below).

Please contribute your ideas for advertising clichés (current or classic) you’d like to see exposed and banished from the marketing communications world. Your idea might be featured next, performing a service to the rest of the advertising community and the general public.
